Board games for us artisans

Board games for artisans - Rococo and Patchwork

Last summer, during our vacation, my spouse “made the mistake” of visiting a board game shop. He was a big fan of board games in the past. But past years, he had abandoned the board games for video games.

For me, a board game was Monopoly, Clue and Payday. See my husband so enthusiastic at the idea of visiting a board game shop, I did not understand too much … This is where he said:

“Do you know some board games are related to sewing and patchwork ? “

“Huh? What are you talking about? “

“Yes, there are games with quilting and sewing theme! “

No need to tell you that he seriously awakens my curiosity. It was then that he introduced me to two games related to the crafting industry. Of course at the vision of the boxes I was convinced. I would like to show you two games created for us the artisans. I say ‘’for us artisans’’ but my spouse and children like these games as well.

Patchwork by Uwe Rosenberg ($29.99)

Patchwork board gameBy the name of the game, you guess that is a game about Patchwork! It’s a two players game.  A simple game, but very strategic. The goal of the game is to build a quilt by collecting pieces of clothing that are placed in front of us. You will buy your pieces of fabric using buttons. The buttons are the “money” of the game.

If you know the video game Tetris, you will quickly understand the mechanics of the game. The pieces of fabric have shapes reminiscent of Tetris. And just like in the Tetris game, you’ll have to pay attention to the pieces of fabric you’ll be gathering since they’ll have to fit together to form your quilt.

During the game, you will also collect little pieces of leather to fill the holes left on your quilt. The winner will be the player with the most money (buttons). But the end result of your quilt is important since you will lose buttons for each empty space on it.

An excellent game for two players that appeals to everyone. It’s short, easy to understand and it’s not expensive.

Rococo by Matthias Cramer, Louis Malz and Stefan Malz ($59,99)

Rococo board gameThis one is a little more complex for a beginner or for a player who is used to the classic board games like Monopoly. This is a management resources game. Basically, you are a dressmaker and you have to make elegant coats and stunning dresses to peoples invited to King Louis XV’s ball.

We gather fabrics of all kinds of colors, lace and wool. With the resources, we make dresses, clothes and coats. The king will also ask you to decorate there different ballrooms.

The winner will be the player with the most victory points by bringing dresses and clothes.

The game is created for two to five players, but it is more interesting when we are at least three.

Sewing and board games hand in hand

This is a great way to share your passion with others. An opportunity to have fun in the world of sewing. For the moment, these are the only two games that refer to sewing that I know.

I am lucky to have children and a spouse who enjoys these games. I would like in the near future discover an interesting game for knitting. It’s my spouse’s job to find one!

At the beginning, I told you “my spouse made the mistake of visiting a board game shop”, of course, it was not a mistake. I was sarcastic, since it allowed me to get my hands on these two beautiful games. However, my spouse is a little bit addicted … he keeps coming up with new games week after week. 🙂

Do you know board games related to crafts? Put them in the comments please. I would like to find some new one.
